Class Descriptions

 

Creative Movement (ages 3-4)

Perfect for the younger student, this class is designed as an introduction to dance.  The class will explore movement through music, stimulate students' imagination and promote creativity.  It will also give them an understanding of the classroom community, improve social skills and develop fine motor skills all while having fun! 

Ballet/Tap Combo ,

 This beginner class will give children a fun and exciting introduction into the world of ballet and tap. The step-by-step class will creatively teach your child the basic moves to becoming a dancer, while building self-assurance and coordination

KinderS.W.A.G - Shake, Wiggle and Groove (ages 4-6)

This class serves as an introduction to Hip Hop dance for the younger student.  Using games and music, the class focuses on rhythm, musicality and basic footwork. It is a great way to get kids moving!

Ballet 1 & 2  

Foundations of Level 1 beginning ballet  assists a student's transition within the Children's program into a more structured class environment for Level 2. They are introduced to an increased level of formal training consisting of barre and centre work.

Ballet 3 

This intermediate level class assists a student's transition from the Children's program into the Youth program with a more structured class environment. They are introduced to an increased level of formal training consisting of barre and centre work along with brief repertory study.

Ballet 4 

Foundations of Classical Ballet assists the student's transition from the Intermediate Level into a more structured professional class environment. They are introduced to an increased level of formal training consisting of barre and centre work and balance theory. The posture, placement and conduct of classical ballet is strongly emphasized. Exercises introduced at this level for alignment, flexibility, and coordination will develop a strong foundation of physical, cognitive and understanding of style necessary for Classical Ballet training.

Tap 1 (ages 5-7), Tap 2 (ages 8-11), Tap 3 (ages 12-14), Tap 4  (age 15+)

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound.  Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap.  Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun.  As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.  *Tap students Level 2 and above are required to take at least one ballet technique class per week

Contemporary 1 (ages 10+), Contemporary 2 (ages 12+), Contemporary 3 (ages 14+)

Contemporary dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Students must take this class in conjunction with ballet.    *All Contemporary students are required to take at least one ballet technique class per week

Pre-Jazz (ages 4-5), Jazz 1 (ages 6-7), Jazz 2 (ages 8-11), Jazz 3 (ages 12-14), Jazz 4  (age 15+) 

Jazz dance is a fun and energetic style. The class includes a warm-up with stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises and then moves across the floor to work on turns, leaps, jumps and runs. Each class ends with a fast-paced combination. Jazz 1 is perfect for the young dancer and focuses on coordination while Jazz 2 is for the student with more experience.  Jazz 3 and 4 are our advanced level classes.  *Jazz students Level 2 and above are required to take at least one ballet technique class per week

Hip Hop 1 (ages 7+), Hip Hop 2 (ages 10+) 

These classes teach the fundamentals of hip hop movement. They are upbeat and high energy classes.  Stretching, isolations, rhythms, musicality, upper body strength and funky footwork will all be incorporated.  Students will learn to memorize choreography by working on a combination each class.

 

 We reserve the right to place students according to their age, ability level, and experience.

Personal evaluations and placement classes are available.
